Michael Jackson race card

So, some think its racism. I hate to break it to them. It’s not. Michael Jackson is accused of child molestation. If it were a famous family singer from the same era like Donny Osmond, the outcry from the public would be the same. Jackson’s bizarre behavior is beyond eccentric. It’s weird.
Even after the accusations almost a decade ago, Jackson has not changed his off the wall antics. I agree, he probably didn’t have a normal childhood like others. Jackson grew up in a business world. His lifestyle probably deprived him of normal childhood friendships and education. He was an icon and had to live up to the expectations of his fans and family. Donny Osmond, who also started singing with his brothers around the same time, also had to live up to the same expectations as Jackson.
If Osmond dangled his baby from a balcony and had little boys in his bedroom for routine sleepover parties, he would be under the same microscope. It’s the fame, not the race that brings the added attention. These guys are looked up to and trusted by their young fans. Jackson blew that trust. No one in his or her right mind could seriously say that racism does not exist in America. It does. And it will always exist.
Not only by whites but all races. The issue is the corruption of the innocence of children. Those who are screaming racism are crying wolf. The only people benefiting from this race card defense are the race activists. This is a very high profile case and they will play it all the way to the bank. If Jackson could prove his innocence in a court of law, it will be based on his defense, not his color, whichever color that may be.

Illegals have no right to drive in California

I would like to address F.A. Fritz's letter from Aug. 26 regarding his DMV illegal alien roundup. It's not as simple as that, but I get the idea Fritz is trying to get across. Allowing illegal immigrants to obtain a driver's license from California or any other state in our country is unreasonable and dangerous.

How do we even know that the documents that they provide to the DMV are real? They could even use a temporary address when applying. This would mean countless man-hours for INS investigators, not to mention the chance that the illegals may even register to vote. If this came to be, illegal immigrants can even get government services. I have always tried to be open-minded on this issue, but the risk and dangers outweigh the benefits.

True, licensed illegal immigrant drivers can be insured and insurance rates would probably go down. That would be the only benefit I see.

This in no way justifies allowing illegals to obtain driver's licenses. Our government does, however, allow drivers from other countries to travel our roads and highways with licenses from their country of origin, providing they have the proper documentation to be in our country legally.

People sympathetic to this issue generally feel that the illegal immigrant needs to get to work and has the same rights an American citizen has to drive. Wrong! How about the illegals who are on social services and don't even work?

How about foreign terrorists with expired visas driving around our cities scoping out their next target or hauling fertilizer?

Food for thought.

Politicians must straighten out immigration

I would like to add to Byron Slater's letter printed on Aug. 24, expressing the need to straighten out our immigration mess.

Not only are illegal immigrants draining many services here in California, but the problem is spreading throughout the country.

Matricula consul ID cards are now being seen more often, as are false resident-alien and border-crossing cards. Illegal immigrants are using the matricula ID cards as a form of identification, even though there are still debates in some states as to their accepting it.

In order for a Mexican national to obtain one of these cards, they are required to provide a birth certificate, Mexican voter registration, Mexican military registration (for men), and fill out some forms and return them to the Mexican consul general here in San Diego. What is the guarantee that these required documents are real?

Of course, I am not implying that there is corruption in the Mexican government, and that for the right price, you could purchase a Mexican birth certificate with a seal. That would be unheard of. The fake resident-alien cards are carried by some illegal immigrants. They also have fake Social Security cards with made-up numbers. With these cards, they find work and probably obtain other services. Whoever is elected to office in our state cannot overlook this crisis.
